Vintage Hammered Copper Mica Shade LAMP Arts & Crafts Picture(s) and Description:

Vintage

You are bidding on a very old Arts & Crafts Lamp. After watching the Antique Road Show, I thought for sure this was a Dirk van Erp (1859-1933) lamp from the very early 1900's. It has all the bells and whistles except for the feel- like pottery part of the lamp. My grandfather(1878-1947) lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was trained in the foundries of Milan and Paris. He came to America in 1902 and worked for the Boesch Lamp Company in San Francisco until the earthquake in 1906. He was featured at the Oakland Museum (2006) with a display about his life and his journal. He too, like van Erp, used the copper shell casing from Mare Island Naval Shipyard to make many different items. He too would give his projects to friends and relatives, once giving a coffee set to Mussolini in 1927. Back to the lamp...I sent the photos you see to David Rago (Antique Roadshow). Someone on his staff wrote briefly...not a Dirk van Erp! The lamp measures 17 1/2" high. The shade is a little over 12" in diameter. The base is 7 3/4" in diameter. The 3 panel translucent mica shade is in good condition and the clips underneath have not been bent back. There are 3 riveted straps that are attached on the outside which it is said to be early 1900. There is a small acorn shape pull. The lamp has a nice natural patina. The straps coming from the bottom base up to the top and curl (there are 3) one is bent out slightly. What that jar is in the middle, I have no idea. It looks and feels like pottery with a beautiful glaze. There are a few spots on the bottom that the glaze did not cover. It is not signed. It is electric and the socket looks original as does the pull. Remember, I am not a professional dealer, what I may or may not feel important or notice you may ask prior to bidding. I have put a reserve, just in case this is a very early Dirk van Erp. Who knows,I read that Dirk van Erp arrived at his extraordinary handmade designs through a slow process of trial and error. Maybe this is an early error!!! Also I trust the bidders on ebay, to tell me what they think, over and above some of the professionals on TV! Ha! If you want more information or pictures just ask.
