Reverse Painted JEFFERSON Table Lamp, 2-Signed, c. 1910 Picture(s) and Description:

Gorgeous Signed Jefferson Reverse-Painted Lamp c. 1900 This breath-taking reverse-painted Jefferson lamp is a rare and beautiful piece of antiquity. It was produced by the Jefferson Lamp Company in the early 1900s. The shades of these lamps required a specially skilled artist, as the shades were painted opposite that of a normal painting, with the foreground first, followed by the background. The chipped-ice shade is exquisitely detailed. It is a beautiful landscape captured just as the foliage is changing from the greens of summer to the reds, oranges, and browns of autumn. A path is visible from the bottom of the shade, and it winds its way under a tall brown tree, which has already shed its leaves. Peach-colored clouds decorate the light blue sky, and two tall, thick trees stand side by side, one a brilliant green and the other a deep burnished red. Green and brown patches of grass show further signs that winter is on the horizon. The metal body of the lamp is a lovely gold color and it is divided into separate sections, all with indented vertical lines going up the base. These sections have sleek curves to them as well, and they add interest and dimension to the piece as a whole. The base has similar indented lines which form a nice pattern. The base curves softly downward and these curves are divided by indented horizontal rings, which balance the bulk of the shade. The lamp is clearly signed Jefferson two times, once on its base and once on the metal rim around its shade. It also has some writing on the inside edge of the shade itself, which begins with either an L or a 1, then 364 1. This is probably a serial number, and we have photographed this marking, although it is somewhat difficult to read. There are additional markings on the lamp’s sockets, which are PRESS Made in USA and 250W 250V P & S PATENTED. P & S is the manufacturer of the socket. The lamp has two sockets and these markings appear twice on the lamp, once on each socket. The lamp stands 21 inches tall. Its shade has a diameter of 16 inches and its base has a diameter of 7 inches. The lamp has a chipped-ice shade which gives its outside a course, sturdy texture. The shade has absolutely no chips, no cracks, and no paint chippage. The metal base is painted gold, and it shows only the slightest amount of paint chippage, which gives it an appealing vintage look. This chippage is very slight, and is mostly reserved to the base of the piece and the screw in the top of the lamp. Overall, this authentic Jefferson lamp is in excellent condition and it is sure to be a beautiful conversation piece in any home.
