FRENCH

Superb and very rare art deco desk lamp manufactured by JUMO and designed by Eileen Gray around 1935 . A very large lamp with a superb bakelite base, large bulb protector which serves also as non glaring device and the white enameled shade topped with a copper finial. This truly outstanding desk lamp is a great example of Gray's art. Its pure, clear-cut lines give it unprecedented elegance. The lamp is in perfect working order. It has bayonet socket. The lamp works on 15W - 40W / 110V - 220V with a standard bulb. A very detailed lamp and a real high light in your home. Eileen Gray was an Irish lacquer artist, furniture designer, and architect now well-known for incorporating luxurious lacquer work into the stark International Style aesthetic. She first studied painting at London's Slade School of Art. She eventually left painting to study lacquer under the guidance of lacquer craftsman, Sugawara. In 1913, she held her first exhibition, showing some decorative panels at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. She combined lacquer and rare woods, geometric abstraction and Japanese-inspired motifs into her work. Condition: Excellent, The bakelite is gleaming without any cracks or damage.
