From "THE SHOP TIME FORGOT" Fabulous Original 1930s Art Deco Table Lamp, Wood Base, Original White Opaque Glass Ball Shade with White Bakelite Flying Kitty Hawk Plane / Aircraft, Original Bakelite Fittings in Working Order. CLICK ON ANY PHOTO FOR AN ENLARGEMENT & Please read ALL the description carefully before Bidding. Dont forget to scroll down for all 12 photos. This has all the wow factor to impress !! In excellent condition, The Bakelite Kitty Hawk is 72 scale, has a wing span of 16 cm & is 13.5 cm in length with no damage, you can rotate, swivel & position it any way you like to give the illusion of it flying over the world. It sits on a chromed wire which is easily removable to change the bulb etc. When lit up the shadow of the Kitty Hawk reflects on the ceiling, I have tried this with coloured bulbs & you get another amazing effect. The base is made of wood & has a diameter of 14.5 cm on the bottom. The Glass Ball shade is original & in near perfect condition, Opening is 8 cm diameter & circumference around the widest part is approx. 46 cm. The Bakelite gallery is also in perfect condition. Overall height approx. 30 cm. SPECIAL NOTE, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ; The power cord is an amazing 493 cm ( 16 ½ foot) long, The reason, it is designed to run off a master lamp only (standard or another table lamp) remember electrical wall outlets were at a premium in the 1920-30s, Now look carefully at the photo below on the right with the an ordinary light bulb showing, pretend this is the bulb that would be on the master lamp, you need to attach the Brown Bakelite fitting in the master lamp bulb socket & then put in the bulb (as shown), there is an on/off switch on this piece & on the left side is where the Kitty Hawk lamp plugs in, The other photo on the left is the on/off switch for the Kitty Hawk lamp itself & sits up near the wood base. This enables that you can turn both lamps on at the same time or just have the Kitty Hawk lamp on or just the master lamp on, (The master lamp would be plugged into your wall socket) ( dont forget to turn all its switches on too) All quite ingenious & the fitting is a collectors item in its own right, (Remember you cannot plug this Kitty Hawk lamp into a wall socket unless you get it rewired with a ordinary 3 prong plug) which would destroy a lovely & rare piece of history. (this has not been checked by a qualified electrician & you should do so before plugging in) photo above of it turned on is from my own home running off a standard lamp & does not do it justice once lit up.
