The globe is 9 1/2" tall and 10" in diameter.I am selling this exquisite lamp exactly as it was found at a local western Connecticut estate.I believe it is from the Victorian Era or possibly early Art Deco.The metal base is probably spelter or regule. A magnet does not attract to any portion of this lamp. Condition is superb with no damage to note. The bottom is four footed with eight ornately formed gargoyles incorporated into the design. The soldier stands on textured ground that includes a flower. I am surprised that I could not find a signature on the figure, as the details are simply outstanding. Please enlarge my photos for the best view. The soldier holds a large font holder in the shape of a bowl, that has a reticulated shell brass base. The bowl is very ornately embossed. Although I did not photograph it as such, the bowl does screw off the holder at the base of the brass where it connects to the pole. A brass ring sits on the rim, fitting perfectly to accept the size of the font. The font is marked THE ROCHESTER on the top and front, with the latest date AUGUST 26, 1890 on the top. I believe the font is nickel silver plated to brass. It is possibly not original to the lamp as the embossed design around the top differs slightly. However, it is a perfect fit and does not detract. This is a kerosene or gas fired font where as there is no wick. There is a lever that may regulate the intensity of the light, it just wiggles slightly. The fuel cover is brass. There are two brass rings that hold the shade. One inside the other. The outer is decoratively reticulated. The globe fits perfectly into this assembly. The globe is of blue satin or frosted glass with a high relief ripple pattern and 8 vertical beaded non-satin glass strips. The satin finish is on the outside. No makers name on the globe. Consolidated Glass Company was suggested to me, however I am unable to verify this. Condition is excellent with no damage. The edges of the rims are free of the commonly found bites, chips and cracks. Please note that I am not an expert so I have done my best to describe all of the attributes and issues.
